The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tsauri ‘A’ Ward Executive Committee has suspended its former National Secretary, Senator Umar Tsauri, over accusations of anti-party activities and other forms of misconduct. The announcement was confirmed in a letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Alhaji Danjume Abubakar.

According to the letter, the decision was reached during a meeting held on September 14, pending the outcome of an investigation by a disciplinary committee. Senator Tsauri is accused of making unguarded statements against the party’s national leadership, engaging in activities that could tarnish the PDP’s image, and associating with individuals perceived to be damaging to the party’s interests.

The committee, citing Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, stated that their actions were within the powers granted to ward executives, which allow them to discipline members found guilty of misconduct.

In an official statement, the committee urged all PDP members to stay committed to the party’s values, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration. “We must work together to build a strong and united party capable of winning elections and serving the interest of our people,” the statement read.

Alhaji Lawal Audi-Yar’adua, the PDP spokesperson in Katsina State, confirmed receiving the suspension letter from Tsauri’s ward. He added that a committee has been set up to investigate the allegations and assured that the party would follow due process as outlined in its constitution, regardless of the member’s position.

Reacting to the suspension, Senator Tsauri questioned its legality. He argued that neither the ward nor the state chapter of the party had the constitutional authority to suspend a former National Secretary without following the proper procedures. He further revealed that he had not been officially notified of the suspension and only learned of it through social media.

“The party has its rules and regulations, and before action is taken against any member, certain processes have to be followed,” Tsauri remarked.
