Pastor Ademola Amusan, a well-known clergyman based in Ibadan, Oyo State, has stepped in to assist Mrs. Oriyomi, an elderly widow discovered living in a cage in the Egbeda area. The pastor, who is the founder of Agbala Gabriel Ministry, learned of her situation through a church member who encountered the widow while evangelizing.
In a livestream on the Agbala Gabriel Global Facebook page, Pastor Amusan described his visit to the widow’s makeshift shelter, where she was found living alongside her visually impaired daughter and her 30-year-old sister. The widow, who lost her husband several months ago, revealed that she had been residing in the wooden cage for about six years. Her late husband, originally from Okitipupa in Ondo State, had brought her to the area while working as a guard at a telecom site.
Neighbors confirmed that Mrs. Oriyomi, known for her peaceful demeanor, lived with her two adult daughters in the deplorable conditions. The widow shared that she had seven children, two of whom have died, leaving her with five, including her visually impaired daughter, Damilola, who had returned home after experiencing abuse in her marriage.
When asked how they managed to feed themselves, Mrs. Oriyomi explained that she sold herbal remedies made from local plants and occasionally begged for food. “I made N500 today,” she told Pastor Amusan.
Touched by her circumstances, Pastor Amusan declared that Mrs. Oriyomi and her daughters would no longer have to endure life in the cage. He pledged to secure them a proper home within 24 hours.
In conversation about future plans, the widow expressed her desire to sell cold drinks and water, while her daughter Damilola showed interest in pursuing hairdressing. Amusan promised to provide a shop, a freezer, and a generator to help them start anew, along with other essential items for their fresh start.
