One man lost his life and eight others were seriously injured in a collision between two commercial buses on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on September 16. The accident occurred on the section of the bridge heading towards Oworonsoki.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that both bus drivers were speeding when the collision happened. The injured individuals have been taken to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased has been moved to the morgue.
Taofiq described the incident as a tragic head-on collision involving two Mazda commercial buses, with license plates LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH. The crash, which took place near Ilaje on the bridge, resulted from a high-speed chase that began from Adeniji Adele. This incident highlights the severe consequences of reckless driving.
LASTMA’s quick response helped rescue the eight injured passengers, all of whom sustained severe injuries. They were transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS). Additionally, police units from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations played a crucial role in maintaining order and facilitating the rescue operation.
