The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has reported the surrender of Bochu Abacha, a notorious Boko Haram terrorist, to its troops in the Kukawa Local Government area of Borno State.
In a statement released on Saturday by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF based in N’Djamena, Chad, this development is seen as a crucial step in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad region.
According to the statement obtained by SaharaReporters, Abacha is recognized as a significant player in numerous terrorist operations. He admitted to being a notorious member of Boko Haram and confirmed his involvement in various operations along the Monguno-Baga axis.
He stated that his decision to surrender was influenced by the intensified operations of the MNJTF and a growing disinterest in continuing with the group. He also revealed that he escaped from a Boko Haram camp in Mussaram, taking his weapon with him.
During his surrender, authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, an AIRTEL SIM card, and cash totaling N32,500. Abacha is currently providing valuable intelligence to the military.
Osoba further shared that in a separate operation, troops in Gubio, working alongside intelligence operatives, successfully ambushed a group of Boko Haram terrorists transporting a significant logistics supply in three Toyota vehicles under the cover of darkness. During the confrontation, one terrorist was killed, while others managed to escape into nearby forests, abandoning their supplies.
The troops acted on intelligence reports about the terrorists’ crossing points and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. In addition to the one confirmed kill, the troops recovered three Toyota vehicles loaded with various food items and other supplies, as well as cash amounting to N2,000.
