Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly invaded Okuama, a community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, and opened fire on residents. This incident follows the recent arrest of community leaders by Nigerian soldiers just weeks ago.
A community source, speaking to Vanguard, disclosed that the soldiers entered Okuama early on Monday morning through the neighboring Okoloba community. The source also revealed that drones were used on Sunday to survey the area before the invasion.
“As I speak, soldiers along with some youths have entered our community, shooting indiscriminately. They left their boats at Okoloba and approached on foot. They are burning down the small tents we have set up. The situation is chaotic, and I can’t even find my child. Why are we being treated this way?” the source lamented.
The source further expressed concerns, questioning why soldiers would align with what they described as their enemies to attack the community. “Our leaders were arrested weeks ago, and now the soldiers have returned to destroy our homes,” he added.
The reason for this latest invasion remains unclear at the moment.
