In the early hours of Tuesday, Gwagwalada was shaken by a brazen robbery as four houses along the Radio House axis, close to Jimrose Hotel, were targeted and invaded by a group of armed robbers.

Residents report that the criminals, in their numbers, operated with precision. They damaged a light bulb at a nearby mosque that illuminated its premises and the surrounding houses. Using machinery, they broke into the homes, cutting down the doors to gain access.

One resident, whose house was among those robbed, shared how the robbers entered his home and demanded that he and his girlfriend hand over their mobile devices and other gadgets, such as laptops and a music box. In fear, they complied without hesitation. The robbers quickly took all the phones and moved to the next flat.

At another flat, the robbers asked the victim for the keys to his motorcycle. The resident was shocked, as he hadn’t parked his motorcycle anywhere near his flat. This led our reporters to suspect that the robbers had insider information or an informant within the area.

In the another flat, which was home to a mother and her children, the robbers forced their way in and demanded valuable possessions. They took the family’s phones and injured a minor on the face with a weapon. The young girl, who was brutalized, was asked to hand over her second phone. This further fueled the belief that the operation was planned based on prior information or careful observation over time.

The mother of the girl is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. Although she was not physically injured, she has a pre-existing condition of high blood pressure, and the shock of the robbery caused her to fall ill immediately after the incident. The emotional toll on the victims is profound.

The robbers reportedly terrorized the residents for nearly an hour before fleeing the scene. The Police were alerted shortly after the robbery, but by the time security personnel arrived, the robbers had already fled.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the increasing insecurity in Gwagwalada, with residents calling for more frequent police patrols and a stronger security presence in the area. The victims are still assessing the total value of the stolen items, and it is expected that a more detailed account of the losses will emerge as investigations continue.

There is no official statement from the police area command concerning the incident . Stay tuned for more updates on the case.
