In a tragic incident in Chad’s Lake Chad region, two health workers were abducted, and a third was killed by an armed group, according to a report from The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA), an international non-governmental organization. The attack occurred at a health post in Fende 2, approximately 200 kilometers northeast of N’Djamena, Chad’s capital. ALIMA’s statement revealed that while three workers managed to escape, the whereabouts of the abducted personnel remain unknown.
The official statement was released after the United Nations coordinator in Chad confirmed the death and abduction of workers affiliated with ALIMA and ALERTE SANTÉ. Both organizations condemned the attack, emphasizing that these health workers were providing essential humanitarian services to vulnerable Chadian populations.
ALIMA and ALERTE SANTÉ have been working together since 2012 to deliver critical medical and nutritional aid, focusing particularly on infants in the region and in N’Djamena. Their efforts have been vital to communities displaced by ongoing violence in the area.
The Lake Chad region, which is shared by Chad, Niger, Cameroon, and Nigeria, is notorious for its complex geography of water and swamps, with small islands serving as hideouts for extremist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP).

In June, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that over 220,000 people have been displaced in the region due to repeated attacks by armed groups.
