
A well-known Igbo businessman, Emeka Nwachukwu, who is based in Kwara State, has been kidnapped by gunmen at his residence in Kosubosu, the headquarters of Baruten Local Government Area. The abduction occurred on Wednesday, September 11.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside security operatives, vigilante members, and hunters, have been combing the bushes in an effort to rescue Nwachukwu.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated, “Efforts are ongoing to rescue him. The DPO, vigilantes, and hunters have been in the bush since the incident occurred.”
According to local sources, the gunmen stormed Nwachukwu’s residence near the INEC office around 8:30 p.m., firing shots wildly into the air. Nwachukwu, a prominent figure in the community and a teacher, also owns a medicine store in the area.
It was further revealed that the kidnappers have contacted Nwachukwu’s brother, demanding a ransom of N100 million for his release.
