A security guard was reportedly shot by gunmen at the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The attack is said to have occurred at midnight.

Sunny Wokekoro, the state chairman of the party, disclosed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, but noted that details surrounding the shooting are still unclear. He confirmed that the injured security guard is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Wokekoro also mentioned that the police, who were deployed to the secretariat after last month’s bombing incident, have not yet provided any information about this recent attack.

Wokekoro expressed concern over the ability of the police to identify those responsible for the latest attack, especially given that they have yet to reveal any findings from the previous explosion. Despite these setbacks, he emphasized that the party remains undeterred and will continue its activities, including participation in the upcoming local government election next month.

This shooting comes just weeks after the APP secretariat, located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, was targeted in a dynamite explosion. The assailants reportedly threw dynamites into the building, causing significant damage to windows, doors, and other property within the secretariat.

The explosion occurred amid rumors that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was planning to align with the APP along with his supporters, following a prolonged dispute with former Governor Nyesom Wike.
