Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the immediate closure of all schools in the state due to severe flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital. This decision, aimed at preventing the loss of lives, was confirmed by the State Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovations, Engr. Lawal Wakilbe, during a phone conversation with our correspondent on Monday evening.

According to Wakilbe, all primary and secondary schools have been instructed to close for a two-week period, allowing the floodwaters to subside. He explained that the directive came after consultations with the state’s flood committee, which deemed the move necessary to safeguard lives.

The flooding has affected numerous communities across nearly all local government areas, with the worst-hit regions being Maiduguri, Jere, and surrounding LGAs. In response to the crisis, the Zulum administration established a special committee led by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijjani, to ensure a swift and coordinated response to the flood emergency.
