The Nigerian Army has refuted claims suggesting that Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has stepped down from his role. Recent online reports indicated that Lagbaja had submitted his resignation to President Bola Tinubu, allegedly citing an assassination attempt as the reason for his departure.

In response to these claims, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, labeled the reports as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard such misinformation.

Lieutenant General Lagbaja was appointed as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, following the tenure of Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, as selected by President Tinubu.
