A Senior Magistrate Court in Kano State has dismissed charges against 37 protesters who were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests. The court, led by Magistrate Ibrahim Abubakar Mansur, also granted bail to 48 other protesters, but under strict conditions.

The legal representation for the protesters was provided by a coalition of professionals from various organizations, including the Centre for Human Rights and Social Advancement (CEFSAN), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

According to the court’s decision, each of the 48 protesters who were granted bail must deposit N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) with the Registry of the Kano State High Court. Additionally, they are required to provide two reliable sureties to secure their release.

The case has been adjourned to September 18, 2024, for further proceedings.

This ruling follows a similar decision made by another Senior Magistrate Court in Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, where 36 protesters were unconditionally discharged, and 35 others were granted bail.

The arrests occurred during the #EndBadGovernance protests, which called for an end to corruption and poor governance in Nigeria.
