Nigerian troops have arrested Alhaji Nafi’u Yahaya, who is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of family members of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Justice Sani Sulaiman Duna, the Emir of Mutum Biyu in Taraba State. This tragic incident occurred last year when Yahaya allegedly led a group of kidnappers who targeted the Emir’s household.

In February 2023, armed men abducted the wives and children of the Emir from his residence in Jalingo, the state capital. Tragically, they were killed shortly after their capture. Bakatsine, a reporter specializing in conflict and crisis in northwest Nigeria, announced Yahaya’s arrest in a post shared on Saturday morning. The post included a video of Yahaya being interrogated, where he spoke in Hausa and confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Yahaya previously served as an accountant at the Emirate palace in Gassol Local Government Area, Taraba State. Bakatsine suggested that Yahaya’s dismissal from his position may have motivated the attack on the Emir’s family. “GREAT NEWS: Alhaji Nafi’u Yahaya, the former accountant of the Mutum Biyu Emirate palace, has been captured by Nigerian troops,” he reported. The attack resulted in the deaths of the Emir’s three wives and 13 children, including two who were studying in Turkey at the time.
