
The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation following the tragic killing of a 20-year-old man by unidentified gunmen on the streets of Okokomaiko, in the Ojo area of Lagos State. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred when a distress call was made to the police, reporting a group of four assailants chasing the victim along Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko. The attackers fired multiple shots aimed at the young man’s head, stomach, and legs before fleeing the scene.
“At around 9:30 p.m., we received information from concerned residents about the attack. Our anti-crime unit was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they met Ms. Vivian, the mother of the deceased, who identified the victim as her 20-year-old son,” Hundeyin revealed. The victim’s name is being withheld for security reasons. He was fatally shot several times by the assailants.
Hundeyin confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway, with police working tirelessly to track down the culprits. “This heinous crime will not go unpunished,” he vowed, stressing the commitment of the police to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The remains of the deceased have been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, for further examination. Hundeyin also mentioned that efforts to apprehend the suspects have been intensified, assuring the public that all necessary resources will be deployed to ensure the culprits are captured and face the full weight of the law.
