In a 7 a.m. broadcast, President Bola Tinubu urged young Nigerians to resist attempts by “enemies of democracy” to disrupt the country’s 25-year streak of uninterrupted democratic rule, amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

President Bola Tinubu issued a stern warning on Sunday, cautioning against actions that could lead to a military takeover in Nigeria. During his early morning address, he called on young Nigerians to reject any efforts by “enemies of democracy” to derail the nation’s 25-year history of uninterrupted democratic governance amidst the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The President emphasized the importance of choosing hope over fear and warned against encouraging the military to take over the government. He did not offer any concessions in his speech but instead asked the protesters to join him in building a brighter future.

He stated, “Now that we have been enjoying democratic governance for 25 years, do not let the enemies of democracy use you to promote an unconstitutional agenda that will set us back on our democratic journey. Forward ever, backward never!”

“Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come. Let us choose hope over fear, unity over division, and progress over stagnation. The economy is recovering; please don’t shut out its oxygen.”
