President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, into the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital. This decision marks a significant shift in the role and function of the facility.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed that the President’s approval was aimed at enhancing medical education and improving healthcare services in the region. The new status of the hospital as a federal teaching institution is expected to provide better training opportunities for students in medical and allied fields while also strengthening healthcare delivery across Nasarawa State.
The move comes in response to a request from the Nasarawa State government. According to the statement, President Tinubu’s decision aligns with his commitment to advancing healthcare and social welfare for Nigerians. His administration continues to prioritize investments and improvements in the health sector.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly had previously supported this transition in 2022, authorizing the transfer of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital to the Federal Government. During a House session, Speaker Ibrahim Abdullahi and Majority Leader Tanko Tunga confirmed that this step was part of broader efforts to establish the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, the state capital.
