The Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, has been tragically killed by bandits after enduring abduction, torture, and inhumane treatment. The news of his death was shared by Idris4Peace on his X handle on Wednesday afternoon. According to his post, the bandits released a distressing video where the traditional ruler was seen pleading for his life and urgently appealing to the government for help.
The post stated: “Sarkin Gobir, a traditional leader in Sokoto, was executed by deadly armed bandits after being abducted, tortured, and dehumanized. The bandits released a video showing the leader pleading for his life and appealing to the government for help.”
This heartbreaking news follows a report by SaharaReporters about Bawa’s abduction by terrorists, where a video surfaced showing the monarch desperately asking for assistance from captivity.
The Emir, along with his son, was kidnapped in July at the Kwanar Maharba area while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, the headquarters of Sabon Birni local government area in Sokoto State.
One of Bawa’s sons recounted the incident, saying, “The bandits, upon spotting the Emir’s vehicle, began shooting, which caused the tires to burst and the driver to lose control, forcing the car to stop suddenly. The bandits then abducted the district head and his driver, who is also his biological son.”
A few days after the kidnapping, the abductors demanded a ransom of N1 billion for the victims’ release. In the video released online, the monarch, speaking in Hausa, described how they were kidnapped by the terrorists. He emphasized the perilous situation they were in, expressing that they had been suffering in the forests where they were held captive. Pleading for help, he urged the government to come to their aid immediately.
In the same video, one of the gunmen can be heard instructing the victims on what to say in Hausa.
