Abdulrashibu Ya’u, a 40-year-old tea vendor, has been detained in Jigawa State following allegations that he killed a 20-year-old man, Hassan Garba. The incident occurred in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, within the Dutse Local Government Area.

According to P.M.EXPRESS, Ya’u is accused of using a rope to tie Garba before beating him to death. This act was reportedly a response to the theft of Indomie noodles, bread, milk, and petrol from his premises.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State, confirmed that Ya’u is in police custody, undergoing interrogation. During questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u admitted to assaulting Garba, whom he accused of previous thefts.

Adam revealed that Ya’u, enraged by Garba’s repeated thefts, had informed the victim’s parents of his grievances without receiving any resolution. In his anger, Ya’u allegedly restrained Garba with a rope and beat him with a stick until he died. Neighbors reported hearing Garba’s cries for help but could not intervene until the police arrived. By then, Garba was already dead. The victim was taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and his body was sent to the mortuary for an autopsy.

The police are continuing their investigation, and Ya’u is expected to face murder charges in court, as confirmed by DSP Adam.
