Halliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Wasagu Division in Kebbi State, has been confirmed dead following a tragic incident at a checkpoint in Zamfara State.

Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, reported that Liman was fatally shot by a soldier while traveling to Birnin Kebbi for a meeting. The incident occurred at a checkpoint in the Danmarke area of Bukkuyum Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara, where Liman was stopped by military personnel from Operation Dadarin Daji.

Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Liman was shot dead on the spot. Abubakar’s statement emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into this violent act, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

According to the police statement released on Thursday, at around 10:30 a.m. on August 28, 2024, SP Liman was killed by military personnel led by someone identified as Hassan, who is associated with OPHD Sector 6 in the Dan Marke area of Bukkuyum. The statement described the attack as brutal and unacceptable.

“SP Liman, en route to a monthly conference in Birnin Kebbi, was stopped and, despite presenting his police identification, was shot in the head by Hassan,” the statement noted. It strongly condemned the unprovoked attack and called for immediate and comprehensive action to ensure accountability.

The statement criticized the military’s breach of engagement rules and inter-agency cooperation principles, urging prompt corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future. It also stressed the importance of police and military collaboration for public safety and expressed condolences to SP Liman’s family and colleagues.
