A devastating flood has claimed the lives of six people and left 10 others critically injured in Adamawa State. The flood ravaged the Shuwa and Kirchinga communities within the Madagali Local Government Area, resulting in widespread destruction of lives and property.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri visited the affected areas on Sunday and declared the communities as “disaster areas.” He pledged that state resources would be allocated to help rebuild the devastated regions.

In addition to the fatalities, it was reported that 10,264 individuals have been displaced by the flood. The disaster was triggered by torrential rains that began on Thursday and continued until Sunday afternoon.

The flood also caused severe damage to infrastructure, washing away bridges and other essential structures. Notably, the bridge spanning the Yazaram River, which connects Adamawa and Borno States, was swept away, leaving travelers stranded on both sides.

The floodwaters also devastated farmland, with crops on hundreds of hectares being destroyed. This has left many farmers in despair, uncertain about their future.

Governor Fintiri, while expressing his condolences to the victims, was visibly shocked by the extent of the damage. He reassured the affected communities that the state government would do everything possible, within its limited resources, to provide support and aid in rebuilding the area.

He appealed to the Federal Government and humanitarian organizations to assist the victims of the Madagali flood, highlighting that the destruction was overwhelming, with 11 communities affected.
