Russia has issued a stern warning, emphasizing the potential dangers of allowing Ukraine to launch Western missile strikes into Russian territory. Moscow cautioned the United States and other Western nations that such actions could dramatically escalate the conflict, potentially leading to a broader, more dangerous confrontation beyond Europe’s borders.

The Russian government underscored the importance of restraint and urged all involved parties to pursue diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution. This call for caution comes after Ukraine launched an attack on Russia’s western Kursk region on August 6, marking the most significant foreign assault on Russian soil since World War II. In response, President Vladimir Putin vowed that Russia would deliver an appropriate response to this aggression.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the West of deliberately escalating the conflict in Ukraine. According to a report by RT, Lavrov criticized Western nations for considering Ukraine’s requests to ease restrictions on using foreign-supplied weapons, warning that such actions were tantamount to “asking for trouble.”

Lavrov’s comments followed Ukraine’s appeal to Western arms suppliers to permit the use of their weapons for long-range strikes deep within Russian territory. Speaking at a joint press conference with Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsen Al-Zindani, Lavrov dismissed these requests as a mere diversion, designed to distract from the West’s own role in heightening tensions with Russia. “This is a ruse. The West does not seek to avoid escalation. They are, as they say, asking for trouble,” Lavrov told journalists.

The Russian foreign minister also criticized American geopolitical strategies, suggesting that U.S. planners falsely believe they can avoid the repercussions of a potential war with Russia. “The American mindset is one of a master, comfortably sitting on the other side of the ocean, convinced of their safety while expecting others to bear the brunt of the conflict. Not only Ukrainians, but also Europeans, seem to be disposable in this equation,” Lavrov remarked.

Lavrov further cautioned that the current situation was akin to “children playing with matches,” warning that it was extremely dangerous for those in power, particularly those with access to nuclear weapons in Western countries, to engage in such risky behavior. He pointed out that the Americans typically associate the concept of a Third World War with a scenario that would primarily impact Europe, while they assume they would remain untouched.

“Our nuclear doctrine is well-known to the Americans, and it’s currently being refined,” Lavrov added, hinting at the potential consequences if the conflict were to spiral further out of control.
