Seven mass transit buses were burned in Potiskum, Yobe State, amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests. The incident occurred on Monday at the local government secretariat in Potiskum.
Eyewitnesses reported to Channel Television that a group of people arrived in large numbers intending to cause mayhem but were quickly prevented by security personnel. The Spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The nationwide protests, driven by social media, began on August 1, 2024, and are set to continue until August 10 across all states, including the nation’s capital, Abuja.
In response to the unrest, the state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns. This measure aims to curb vandalism and looting by hoodlums exploiting the protests. Dairy Abdulsalam, the Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, urged the public to adhere to the curfew for peace to be restored. Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew order.
