The Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) has called on President Bola Tinubu, members of the National Assembly, and their associates to curtail their lavish lifestyles and excessive government spending to address the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

The group’s convener, Prophet Isa El-Buba, emphasized the need for the government to demonstrate sensitivity and leadership by making sacrifices to alleviate the current hardships faced by the populace.

In a press briefing in Jos, Plateau State, El-Buba commended the peaceful protests against bad governance and expressed solidarity with those affected by violence during the demonstrations. He criticized the government’s response to the protests, highlighting the disconnect between the leadership’s opulent lifestyle and the struggles of ordinary citizens.

El-Buba underscored the urgent need for the government to address fundamental issues such as justice, security, and food scarcity. He called for the reduction of excessive government spending, the overhaul of economic policies, and the replacement of non-performing ministers with competent technocrats. Additionally, he urged the reinstatement of a corruption-free fuel subsidy regime and support for local oil refineries to reduce fuel costs.

The IBBN also stressed the importance of empowering the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat high-profile corruption cases and systemic economic sabotage. El-Buba called for continued peaceful protests until the government addresses the demands of the Nigerian people and demonstrates genuine commitment to improving the nation’s governance and economic stability.
