Police operatives from the Rubochi Divisional Headquarters in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully rescued a tipper driver and three laborers from the clutches of kidnappers.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 10 a.m. when the victims, including the driver identified simply as Musa, were on their way from Abaji town to load timber in a forested area of Dnago village.
According to a vigilante who participated in the operation and requested anonymity, the victims were busy loading timber into the tipper when they were suddenly ambushed by armed men. The kidnappers began to move the victims away from the site, but their plan was thwarted when the vigilantes, acting on received information, quickly alerted the police.
Upon receiving the alert, the police joined forces with the vigilantes, resulting in a fierce gun battle that ultimately led to the rescue of the driver and the three laborers.
A police officer involved in the operation confirmed the successful rescue, though the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, was not available for comment at the time.
