In a significant crackdown, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended six individuals believed to be major players in drug trafficking and cult activities. This operation took place at a hideout in the Afaha Offiong community within the Nsit Ibom local government area.

The raid, which unfolded based on reliable intelligence reports, was executed under the guidance of the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara. During a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Ikot Akpanabia, ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, detailed the operation’s success.

“Following specific intelligence about illicit activities in the area, our team was deployed, leading to the swift capture of six males linked to cultism and drug dealing,” ASP John stated.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Michael, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, and Udofia Emmanuel Udofia. The police also seized two bags containing substances believed to be Indian hemp, along with items suspected to be cocaine and other concoctions.

Investigations are continuing as authorities work to apprehend additional members of this criminal network. CP Ayilara has reiterated the Command’s dedication to eliminating criminal elements from Akwa Ibom. He has also urged residents to report any suspicious activities to local police stations to assist in maintaining the safety and security of the community.
