The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of three individuals suspected of attempting to kidnap a car dealer on Ebute Igbogbo Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
A video circulating online on Wednesday shows the dramatic moment when the suspects’ kidnapping attempt was thwarted by alert local youths who quickly intervened. In the footage, the suspects are seen stripped naked, pleading for mercy from the residents who had captured them.
Responding to the video, Lagos State Police Spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the three suspects are now in police custody. He identified the arrested individuals as Taiwo Olayinka, 30; Azeez Sodiq, 33; and Saheed Moonstruck, 23.
Hundeyin shared, “Three suspects, Taiwo Olayinka, 30; Azeez Sodiq, 33; and Saheed Moonstruck, 23, have been in our custody since yesterday, shortly after the incident. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two suspects who escaped. Meanwhile, the investigation has commenced.”
He further added, “The three arrested are the suspected thieves or kidnappers—investigation will determine which.”
This incident follows a previous report by SaharaReporters in July, detailing how the Lagos State Police Command foiled a kidnapping attempt in the Ladipo area, resulting in the deaths of nine suspects. During that operation, police recovered four AK-47 rifles after confronting the armed gang in various parts of the state, including Ajao, Okota, Isolo, and Ladipo.
