The Federal Capital Territory Police have arrested a Nigerian Navy personnel, Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, in connection with the murder of Aminu Ibrahim, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd).

The arrest was confirmed by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, who disclosed that Muhammad allegedly killed Aminu and stole his car two weeks ago. Igweh further stated that the stolen vehicle, a Prado SUV, has since been recovered.

“Approximately two weeks ago, in the Maitama area of Abuja, Aminu Ibrahim, the son of Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd), was robbed and murdered. His Prado SUV was taken. I can confirm that Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a serving member of the Nigerian Navy, has confessed to committing the crime, and the vehicle has been recovered,” the commissioner said.

Muhammad, the alleged perpetrator, revealed during questioning that he was deployed as a seaman at the former naval chief’s residence. He recounted the events leading up to the crime, saying, “I work at the house. On that night, around 11:30 PM, he wanted to go out and requested security, so I accompanied him with my gun. Along the way, he stopped to check his ATM, possibly to buy something.

“I thought I was just escorting him to the market or somewhere, but when I got out of the car through the other door, I shot him, took the vehicle, and left. I’m a guard and a seaman in the Navy. He did nothing to provoke me; I killed him just to steal his car.”
