Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has confidently predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the 2027 governorship election in Abia State. Speaking in a recent interview on Spin FM, Kalu declared that the current Labour Party governor, Alex Otti, would be the last from his party to lead the state.

Kalu based his confidence on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu, particularly his contributions to Abia State. He emphasized the importance of the APC taking over the state’s leadership to continue these efforts.

He stated, “This will be the last time a Labour governor leads Abia State. I’m saying this without hesitation. The next governor of Abia State will be from the APC. I’ve told him both publicly and privately that the next governor will be from our party. I don’t know how it will happen, but it will.”

Kalu further explained his reasoning, highlighting the hard work of the current administration. “I’m confident because our government is making significant strides, and the President is doing great work. Abia will repay the President for his efforts. A President who has given you the South East Development Commission deserves that.”

He continued, “A President who is appointing Abians into his administration, attracting the dividends of democracy, will be repaid. We are not an ungrateful people. Monkey will not work, and baboon chop. APC will not strengthen the state, only for Labour to take the credit.”

Kalu also touched on his personal stance, stating, “Though we are friends and work together, I won’t accept another party governing my state while I am the sixth citizen of the country. Come 2027, APC will be there. APC will determine the next governor of Abia State. I don’t care who it is, but I know that the APC platform will produce the next governor.”

He concluded by stressing the need for Abia State to align with the central government for better development. “We are ready to work for Abia State, and we are tired of being on the outside. We need to leverage the power at the center to accelerate Abia’s development,” he added.
