The Ogun State government requires applicants for civil service positions to pay a non-refundable fee of N10,000 for the application form.

This directive was outlined in a memo obtained by SaharaReporters, signed by the Permanent Secretary Commission, Jacobs R.O, on behalf of the Ogun State Civil Service Commission. According to the document, applicants must obtain tellers from Room A261 at the Civil Service Commission to pay the N10,000 fee.

Furthermore, the memo specified that application forms and accompanying credentials should be submitted to the office of the Director, Appointment and Transfer at the Civil Service Commission, Block A, Room A233, State Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

This is not the first instance of such a fee being required. In 2021, the state government mandated a N10,000 application fee for those seeking to join the fire service. At that time, Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the recruitment of qualified candidates for the positions of Fire Officer II, GL.08, Higher Fire Superintendent GL.08, and Medical Officer II, GL.12 into the state civil service.

A press release from 2021, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Kolawole Ogunlana, stated that a written examination would be conducted via the Public Service Competitive Entrance Examination on December 6, 2021, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. The release also instructed candidates to obtain a teller from Room A261 for the N10,000 payment and to submit their forms by November 26, 2021.
