The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted rumors circulating on social media that it has been instructed to pay corps members a minimum wage of N70,000.

In a statement released on Sunday, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, labeled the rumor as “absolute falsehood” and urged corps members and the public to disregard such misinformation.

This clarification comes amidst widespread speculation and excitement among corps members regarding the rumored wage increase. Megwa emphasized that the NYSC has not received any directive from the government agency responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the scheme to make any announcements on the issue.

He also advised corps members to avoid being misled by those spreading false information and to rely only on the official channels of communication within the scheme. Additionally, Megwa issued a stern warning to bloggers and social media influencers to refrain from making unauthorized statements about the management of the NYSC.

“This is absolute falsehood, far from the truth. No directive has been received from the relevant government sector responsible for wage matters,” Megwa stated. “Corps members are well aware of the approved channels and modes of communication within the scheme and should disregard the rumor accordingly.

“The NYSC, through this release, admonishes corps members to resist the influence of mischief-makers intent on misleading Nigerians. Bloggers and social media influencers are warned to cease issuing statements about the management of the National Youth Service Corps without proper authorization.”
