The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced its intention to engage reputable and credible Operations and Maintenance (O&M) companies to manage and maintain the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC).
This was revealed in a statement on Friday on NNPCL’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The Warri refinery, located in Delta State, was commissioned in 1978 and is a complex conversion refinery with a distillation capacity of 6,250,000 metric tons annually (MTA), equivalent to 125,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery also includes a petrochemical plant commissioned in 1988, which has production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The Warri refinery primarily serves the markets in the southern and southwestern regions of Nigeria.
The Kaduna refinery, commissioned in 1980, was initially designed to supply petroleum products to Northern Nigeria with a capacity of 50,000 bpd. In 1983, its capacity was expanded to 100,000 bpd with the addition of a second 50,000 bpd crude train dedicated to the production of lubricating oils (lubes). The first crude train’s capacity was further increased to 60,000 bpd in 1986, bringing the refinery’s current nameplate capacity to 110,000 bpd.
