Amid the ongoing nationwide protests against hardships and bad governance in Nigeria, some youths have started attacking properties owned by political leaders.

In videos seen on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, youths were seen burning a mansion built by Nazifi Sani Gumel, a serving House of Representatives member representing Gumel/Maigatari/Sule Tankarkar/Gagarawa Federal Constituency. The youths accused the lawmaker of neglecting their constituency since his election 14 months ago.

In a similar incident in Yobe State, another group of angry youths attacked the house of a current serving Senator, alleging he had siphoned public funds meant for the development of his district.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu’s administration revealed that about 150 new computers and laptops were looted from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano. The newly constructed facility was vandalized by unknown individuals masquerading as protesters last Thursday. These individuals looted various properties, including furniture, electronics, and equipment from the NCC office. However, a separate group of protesters wearing green caps with “peace” emblazoned on them intervened and chased away the perpetrators.

The Minister of Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, confirmed the vandalism of the facility during an appearance on Channels TV. He mentioned that the facility contained around 120 to 150 computers, both PCs and laptops, which were intended to be used after the installation of a generator and power backup. Tijani emphasized that such acts of vandalism are an unfortunate consequence of the protests.
