Nigerian music producer ThankGod Omori, better known as TG Omori, recently shared that he underwent a failed kidney transplant in Lagos State. The popular cinematographer revealed the news in a series of tweets on Wednesday, explaining that his brother had donated a kidney to him in an attempt to save his life.
In his tweets, TG Omori detailed the harrowing experience, stating that he had already undergone three surgeries but believes that it wasn’t his time to die. He wrote, “One year after my kidney failed, I just had a failed transplant at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos. Pray for me.”
He added, “Went into the theater three times, wasn’t just destined to die today. Yesterday, my only brother gave me one of his kidneys so I could live again.”
This comes after TG Omori previously opened up in December 2023 about being hospitalized for much of the year due to consuming fake drinks. At the time, he tweeted, “It’s all fun and jokes, but fake drinks left me hospitalized most of this year.”
The issue of fake drinks has been a growing concern in Nigeria. In March, the Nigeria Police Force raided an illegal factory in Lagos where counterfeit alcoholic beverages were being produced. The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared details of the raid on social media, revealing that four suspects were arrested and a large quantity of fake drinks and labels were recovered.
In another crackdown, last December, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in collaboration with other security agencies, intercepted counterfeiters at the Eziukwu market in Aba, Abia State. These counterfeiters were manufacturing a range of fake beverages, including wines, soft drinks, and other items worth over N750 million. The agency highlighted that the counterfeit products included various well-known brands like Seaman Schnapps, Hennessy, Four Cousins, and many others.
