Nigerian security forces have successfully captured 18 individuals believed to be fighters connected to the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji. The arrests took place in Sokoto State, located in Northwest Nigeria, near the border with Niger.

These apprehensions follow the tragic killing of District Head Isa Muhammad Bawa by bandits in the region. A video that has since gone viral shows the captured suspects being detained in a cell, where they are seen being interrogated and mocked by security operatives.

In the video, one of the security officers is heard addressing the public, saying, “I bring you greetings with peace. Here with us are bandits, Bello Turji’s fighters whom we captured along the border between Nigeria and Niger.”

The video was shared on Sunday by Zagazola Makama, a well-known security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region. He posted the footage on his X handle, providing evidence of the arrest of the 18 suspects connected to Bello Turji.

Makama explained that these arrests were the result of a security operation specifically aimed at combating cross-border banditry and other criminal activities in the area. He further noted that the suspects are believed to be members of armed groups operating under Bello Turji’s command, a group responsible for numerous attacks, kidnappings, and violent crimes across northwestern Nigeria.

“This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace to the area,” Makama stated
