In a startling incident, officials from Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) allegedly raided a residence in Kasholori, Ikorodu, Lagos, and arrested a man without any clear charges.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted his ordeal, stating that the NDLEA officers apprehended him while he was simply charging his phone in his home. The officers reportedly seized his phones, laptops, chargers, and other gadgets during the raid.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, the victim revealed that his release was only secured through the intervention of the head of the Community Development Association (CDA). According to him, the CDA head informed the officers that they had targeted the wrong house and that no illegal activities were taking place there.

“My brother contacted the CDA after the raid, and they intervened, informing the officers that our house was not involved in any illegal activities. The officers later apologized, claiming they didn’t realize it was our home they had raided. It was through the CDA’s efforts that I was released,” the victim said.

However, the situation took another troubling turn when the NDLEA officers reportedly demanded N2 million for the return of his seized items, later reducing the amount to N500,000.

“I have no idea where I’m supposed to get that kind of money,” he lamented.

When SaharaReporters reached out to NDLEA spokesperson Mr. Femi Babafemi, he directed them to the Lagos State Commander, CN Abubakar Liman Wali. The Commander assured that he would personally investigate the matter.

“Please let me know which unit these officers came from. I promise to look into the issue myself. If possible, provide me with the contact information of the suspect. We have officers in charge of each zone, and I won’t allow anyone to cause problems for me,” Wali stated.
