At least 11 members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have been reported missing in Anambra State, along with 33 cattle.

The MACBAN, alongside the Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS), has also dismissed allegations that two individuals recently arrested for suspected kidnapping in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area, are linked to their organizations. Both groups are urging a comprehensive investigation into these kidnapping claims.

According to a statement from Gidado Siddiki, MACBAN’s Deputy Director General, the association underlined that its members are non-indigenes with established and lawful livelihoods in the state.

The statement further emphasized that criminal activities should not be attributed to any specific ethnic or tribal group, and that those involved in criminal acts should be held accountable under the law. “Criminals are not bound by ethnicity; they are motivated by the pursuit of ransom. The individuals detained in this area are unknown to us and are likely outsiders,” Siddiki explained.

He called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into kidnapping incidents in the state and ensure that those found guilty are brought to justice.

Siddiki also highlighted that in the same area, 20 cattle belonging to Haruna Mohammed were killed, while 13 cows owned by Ibrahim Mohammed disappeared along with the owner.

He added that earlier this year, due to the worsening security situation, all legitimate MACBAN members had already left the region.

In a separate statement, Prince Chigozie Nweke, President of ANIAS, affirmed that their organization keeps a record of all non-indigenes in Anambra State, including MACBAN members.
