The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been freed after enduring a terrifying 24 hours in captivity.

According to reports from The PUNCH, a top government official, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed their release late Saturday. “The Commissioner for Youth Development and his wife were freed today. To God be the glory. The state government will issue a statement soon,” the source disclosed.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that unknown gunmen had abducted Commissioner Mba and his wife on Friday. The couple was on their way to attend the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter in Abuja when the incident occurred. Tragically, one of Mba’s aides, hailing from Onitsha, was killed during the attack.

As of now, neither the Anambra State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force has released an official statement regarding the incident.

In a related event earlier this year, gunmen attacked the Nkwo Ibagwa market in Enugu State’s Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area. That attack left several people injured and caused the destruction of goods worth millions of naira. The assailants also set fire to two commercial buses and two tricycles.
