Kano State is set to create an independent judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the fatal shooting of protesters during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. The state government has finalized plans for this commission.

Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for the State Governor, announced this at a press conference in Kano on Monday. The announcement comes after Amnesty International called on Governor Abba Yusuf to conduct a thorough investigation into the actions of security agencies and the alleged involvement of hired thugs, who reportedly disrupted the protests and caused destruction.

The incident took place during the #EndBadGovernance protests, where demonstrators demanded significant economic reforms and the reinstatement of fuel subsidies recently removed by the federal government. The Governor’s spokesperson stated that the main objective of the commission is to investigate the fatal shooting of protesters, uncover the root causes of the looting of public and private properties during the protests, and identify those responsible.

Additionally, the state government has announced the prosecution of 632 suspects for vandalizing public buildings. These individuals have already been arraigned in various courts across the state. Sanusi emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining peace and order, warning that anyone found guilty of vandalism will be arrested and prosecuted.
