The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has denied allegations of the police using excessive force and shooting live ammunition at protesters during the ongoing nationwide demonstrations against hunger and hardship. The denial came on Tuesday during a joint security press briefing in Abuja.

This statement was made despite widespread circulation of videos and photos on social media showing policemen allegedly firing live ammunition at peaceful #EndBadGovernance protesters. Egbetokun maintained that the police have not engaged in such actions, contradicting the visual evidence that has sparked outrage among the public.
