The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Monday that it has initiated a formal investigation in response to a video circulating on social media, which shows a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Kenneth Udo, made this known in a statement released in Abuja. Udo stated that the individual involved has been identified and has been summoned for further investigation.

“If the allegations are confirmed, her actions would constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with penalties prescribed under Section 10(h) of the same Act,” Udo explained.

He further emphasized that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to enforcing the provisions of the Immigration Act to ensure national security and to uphold the dignity and integrity of the country’s legal instruments.
