The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to stay in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite ongoing internal turmoil within the party. Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday, which marked his first year as minister, Wike made it clear that he is not one to shy away from challenges.

Wike declared, “I don’t run away from any fight. I will stay and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that!” His remarks come amid rumors that he might leave the PDP due to internal disputes, especially those directed at him. However, Wike has consistently reaffirmed his dedication to his principles, even if it means standing alone.

When questioned about the possibility of leaving the PDP, Wike responded, “Anyone who knows me knows if I wanted to join the APC, I would do it openly. I’ve never hidden my stance, and I won’t start now. Integrity is very important.” He further emphasized that his steadfastness was a key factor in the PDP’s victory in Rivers State, underscoring the importance of being known for one’s principles. Wike also dismissed his critics, accusing them of being afraid of his influence.

These comments come less than 24 hours after Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, publicly called on PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, to expel Wike from the party. In an open letter, Clark accused Wike of using his connections with President Bola Tinubu to exert undue pressure on Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the PDP.
