In a recent attack on the Four Corner Junction in Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State, gunmen have killed four Nigerian policemen. The officers were at a checkpoint conducting a stop-and-search when the assailants opened fire.
A community source reported that the gunmen targeted the police checkpoint, resulting in the deaths of the officers. A video shared by SaharaReporters on X (formerly Twitter) showed a deceased officer in uniform on the road, with a nearby police patrol vehicle set ablaze. One user commented on the video, noting the incident and mentioning the location, while another linked the attack to a planned “sit-at-home” order in Biafra land.
As of now, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Nduke has not responded to calls or messages. Similarly, Dan Nwomeh, Special Assistant to Governor Peter Mbah on Media, has yet to provide a statement regarding the incident.
Dr. Frank Nweke Jr., a former Information Minister and 2023 All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate, condemned the attack. In a statement on his X handle, Dr. Nweke described the violence as an act of cruelty and extended his condolences to the families of the slain officers and the Enugu Police Command. He emphasized that such brutality against individuals performing their duty is unacceptable.
