A tragic incident unfolded in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, on Wednesday when an explosion claimed the lives of five individuals and left 10 others injured. The blast took place near a security checkpoint on the heavily trafficked Mogadishu-Afgoye highway during the morning rush hour.
Nour Abdirahman, a security official, confirmed the details to Anadolu Agency, stating that police suspect the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber. Authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion, according to reports from TRT AFRIKA.
Responsibility for the attack was later claimed by Al Shabab, a militant group that has been engaged in a nearly two-decade-long campaign to overthrow Somalia’s central government.
