A tragic accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State claimed the life of a dispatch rider on Friday following a multi-vehicle collision.

The incident, which occurred near the Chevron area of the expressway, also left two others with serious leg fractures.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident involved a high-capacity bus with the registration number AKD 952 XZ, a KIA RIO car bearing plate number BDG 853 DA, and a motorcycle with number plate KTU 695 QK.

Providing details on the cause of the accident, Taofiq explained that initial investigations indicate the bus lost control due to brake failure while speeding, leading it to collide with an oncoming KIA RIO. The force of the collision pushed the KIA RIO into the path of the dispatch motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. Sadly, the dispatch rider was killed on the spot, while two others sustained severe fractures and were quickly transported to a nearby hospital by a passing driver who witnessed the incident.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed sympathy for those injured. He also urged motorists, particularly drivers of high-capacity buses, to regularly check and maintain their vehicles, especially the braking systems, before starting any journey.
