Nigerian Islamic scholar and cleric, Muhammad Bello Aliyu Yabo, widely known as Bello Yabo, has urged Nigerians to take active steps in protecting themselves and their families in response to the increasing terrorist threats in the northern region of the country.

During a recent sermon in the North, Yabo emphasized the need for self-defense, advising citizens to arm themselves as a necessary measure against the rising wave of terrorist activities.

In response to the killing of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Yabo declared, “Those who can afford weapons should buy them. If you can manufacture weapons, go ahead and do so. How can you just stand by while a criminal invades your home, kidnaps your wife, or takes you hostage, using his weapon to dominate you?”

Yabo further asserted that since the government is providing arms to the terrorists, ordinary people should also seek weapons for their defense. “Once everyone is armed, we should all rise and confront them. They can’t kill everyone at once, so why should we allow these criminals to eliminate us? Look at the terrorists’ audacity—blocking roads and ordering everyone to stop. Have we all become so powerless? Is there no resistance left? May God make things easier for us,” he added.

Sheikh Yabo hails from Yabo Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Nigeria. He has been a vocal critic of former President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly condemning his handling of insecurity in Northern Nigeria, including the states of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, and Niger.

In an earlier report by SaharaReporters, it was revealed that the terrorists responsible for Bawa’s murder made a disturbing demand: they sought a ransom of N60 million and five motorcycles in exchange for releasing the traditional ruler’s body for proper burial. Bawa and his son were abducted in July while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, his hometown and the headquarters of Sabon Birni Local Government Area in Sokoto State. Initially, the kidnappers demanded a staggering N1 billion ransom for the release of the victims.
