President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the heads of security and paramilitary operatives, convened under the National Security Council, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This meeting is being led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and includes service chiefs and other military and paramilitary leaders.
The meeting takes place amidst nationwide protests against hunger and poor governance. In his recent national broadcast, President Tinubu had appealed to the protest organizers to suspend their activities, especially as some protests have turned violent, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property. He acknowledged the grievances of the protesters but warned against any attempts by opposition politicians to use the situation to destabilize the country’s democracy.
Also in attendance at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, among others.
