On Friday, SaharaReporters revealed that Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure, and a close ally of President Bola Tinubu and former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was allegedly involved in vandalizing government property and leading violent thugs into the Government House in Kano State.

This APC chieftain was also seen taking photographs with Ganduje and 2023 governorship candidate Dr. Nasiru Gawuna.

Dan Agundi, who is also known for his role as the Director in charge of Tinubu’s support groups in the northwest and a former state House of Assembly member, is said to have led a group of thugs to disrupt a peaceful #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano on Thursday. The originally peaceful demonstration took a violent turn when Dan Agundi, alongside his supporters, allegedly incited chaos.

The group of hoodlums who hijacked the protest on Thursday were reported to have broken into several shops in the city and looted food items. They also vandalized and stole valuables from government establishments, including a court records office at the Audu Bako Secretariat Complex on State Road.

Concerned citizens in Kano have accused Dan Agundi of orchestrating the looting. He and his elder brother, Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, had been arrested in 2007 in connection with the death of Hajiya Sa’adatu Rimi, the wife of the late first civilian Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi. Although they were later discharged by the court, the murder case remains unresolved, and the victim’s family has struggled to secure justice.

During the protest, witnesses reported that Dan Agundi and his group abruptly interrupted the peaceful assembly, leading to violence and chaos. The Kano Commissioner of Police has faced criticism for allegedly allowing Dan Agundi to lead the protesters despite the demonstration being against the federal government. This has raised concerns about the police’s impartiality and judgment in managing public protests.

Dan Agundi was earlier quoted as saying he intended to lead the protesters to Emir Aminu Bayero’s palace to lodge a complaint, hoping it would be passed on to President Tinubu. He assured the crowd that the protest would continue despite the weather, emphasizing their determination.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing Dan Agundi among the protesters, surrounded by alleged hoodlums who disrupted the peaceful demonstration. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many arguing that Dan Agundi’s actions undermined the protesters’ rights to express their opinions peacefully.

The public is calling for a thorough investigation into the violence and for those responsible to be held accountable. Recently appointed as the CEO of the National Productivity Centre, Dan Agundi was also seen in a viral video discussing his plans to create chaos in Kano. The concerned citizens, represented by their spokesman Comrade Ghali Aliyu Bala Dantata, have urged Amnesty International and other human rights organizations to seek Dan Agundi’s prosecution for culpable homicide.
