On Sunday, Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga, the Member of the House of Representatives for Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, narrowly escaped a violent incident involving angry youths. The disturbance occurred in Ningi while Ranga was attending the funeral of the late Emir of Ningi, Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya. Elected in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ranga had joined other notable figures from the Ningi Emirate Council to pay his respects.

The confrontation erupted as Ranga was leaving the Emir’s Palace around 5:42 p.m. A group of disgruntled youths, dissatisfied with his performance as a lawmaker, began chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” in Hausa and began throwing sand and stones at his vehicle.

The lawmaker’s car sustained severe damage, with its windows and rear mirrors being shattered amidst the escalating attack. Despite attempts to calm the situation, the assault intensified as Ranga tried to get to his vehicle. Witnesses described the scene as tragic, especially in the context of mourning for the late Emir.

One observer, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the shocking scene: “I was deeply saddened by the Emir’s death when I saw the youths attacking the car. It was our representative under siege.” Although the witness could not confirm if Ranga was hurt, they noted the significant damage to the car.

Another onlooker reported that once the youths spotted Ranga, they quickly mobilized and positioned themselves near his vehicle. As he approached his car, they began hurling pebbles at him. Security personnel and other bystanders intervened to help Ranga get into his car safely and drive away.

Efforts to contact Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga for his perspective on the incident were unsuccessful, as his phone calls went unanswered and messages via SMS and WhatsApp were not returned.
