This significant win marks a notable shift in the political landscape of the area.
On Saturday, voters across Bauchi state turned out en masse to participate in the elections to choose their local representatives. According to the official results released by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) for Papa Ward, Yunusa Muhammad of AAC secured 1,156 votes. His closest rival, Ashiru Mohammad Papa of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 1,053 votes, while Idris Mohammad of the All Progressives Congress (APC) finished third with 290 votes.
Following the announcement, the state chapter of AAC expressed gratitude to its members and supporters for their contributions to the victory. “I am pleased to inform you that our party, the African Action Congress (AAC), has emerged victorious in the councillorship position in Darazo Local Government Area (LGA) in the just-concluded Bauchi State Local Government Election,” said Amb. Umar Y. Abubakar, the AAC Chairman in Bauchi, in a statement on Saturday obtained by SaharaReporters. He further praised the dedication and hard work of the party members and supporters in the region, attributing the win to their collective efforts.
The elections commenced around 11 a.m. in most polling centers across Bauchi, Dass, and Tafawa Balewa LGAs, slightly delayed due to the late arrival of election officials and materials. Despite the delay, voters remained calm and orderly, ensuring a smooth voting process. Security personnel were also present at the polling stations, maintaining order while many residents went about their daily activities undisturbed.
