Students from the University of Benin are protesting a power outage that has persisted for over three weeks. Unable to cope with the ongoing hardship, they began their protest on Wednesday morning by blocking the outbound lane of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
Before being asked to leave by the protesters, some students told Channels Television off-camera that the situation had become intolerable. As a result of the protest, all vehicles are now forced to use only the inbound lane of the expressway. Meanwhile, the university’s main gate remains completely shut down as the demonstration continues.
